Hkahku


Description: Hkahku are ethnicgroup reside in northern part of kachin.

The name Hkahku mean upper river people. They generally live to the north of Jinghpaws and closely related to them. Hkahku reside in Mali Hka and N'Mai Hka valley areas. Other speakers of Jinghpaw dialects are the Htingnai and Gauri.

Hkahkus are regarded as the northern Kachin, and they are tallest of the Kachin peoples. Unlike local Shan migrants, who mostly settled in high land plains and valleys, the Hkahku and other Kachin people practised shifting cultivation in the forests and mountains.
