The Shan are the second largest ethnic group in myanmar. The Shan live primarily in Shan state. Most of the Shan are valley-dwellers. The Shan number approxmiately 6 millions.

Shan people are thought to have migrated from the mountains of Chain's sothern province, Yunna and related to Tai people still live there.
